Seynabou Ndiaye

Can you tell us a bit about you? Background and professional journey

My name is Seynabou Ndiaye, and I am 25 years old. I work as an HSE technician/supervisor at Dakar Offshore. After completing my Bachelor’s degree, I underwent training in the chemical and agri-food industries before specializing in QHSE at the Polytechnic School of Dakar.

Upon completing my license in September 2020, I worked as an intern in the QHSE department at Africa Chips Senegal. My primary responsibility was product quality control before, during, and after production until April 2021.

In June 2021, I completed a two-month internship in the quality department at the National Blood Transfusion Center. My main objective was to review procedures and conduct a customer satisfaction survey.

After completing my internship at CNTS in August 2021, I worked as an intern in the QHSE department at Dakar Offshore before being hired on a contractual basis in March 2022.

Why did you choose Dakar Offshore?

Essentially, I joined Dakar Offshore because I needed to complete an HSE internship. As soon as I saw the job advertisement, I applied, and it was for a three-month internship. During my internship, I realized that Dakar Offshore was the company where I wanted to grow professionally. The company’s commitment to health and safety issues at work enhanced my work experience, which allowed me to strengthen my skills in the QHSE profession.

Working at Dakar Offshore provided me with an opportunity to pursue a career that aligns with my career goals and also to work in a field that I am passionate about. As a result, I decided to stay at Dakar Offshore.

Can you describe your journey within Dakar Offshore?

I initially joined Dakar Offshore as an intern. My main responsibility was to assist the HSE manager in establishing company procedures and ensuring strict compliance with them. It was during this internship that I was appointed as an HSE supervisor within the company.

Working at Dakar Offshore has been instrumental in my personal and professional development. I have been able to develop my interpersonal skills by working closely with the staff. From the beginning, I had the privilege of working with leaders who encouraged me to take initiatives and involve myself in decision-making on issues related to my field of activity. This has motivated me to give my best at work and invest my energy into my job.

What does your job entail, and which challenges do you face in your daily ops?

My job as an HSE supervisor involves daily supervision of the company’s activities to ensure compliance with HSE procedures, educating staff on occupational health and safety topics, assisting staff with issues related to their well-being at work, and improving the quality of services daily.

Working at Dakar Offshore presents daily challenges. The major challenge is enforcing HSE guidelines within the company by demonstrating pedagogy to facilitate smooth changes. Safety in the workplace is often perceived as an obstacle to getting the job done, and most employees view HSE procedures as protocols that delay their work. At Dakar Offshore, we strive every day to help employees understand that compliance with HSE instructions enhances work efficiency.

Another challenge is to encourage personnel commitment to safety at work. Employees are often the ones who are most aware of the dangers related to their workstation and have the most to gain from the implementation of an effective program. The meaningful participation of everyone is essential in any workplace risk prevention program.

What corporate value(s) do you most admire at Dakar Offshore?

One of the values of Dakar Offshore that I admire the most is the management’s commitment to health and safety in the workplace. The mutual respect shown by the staff and the team cohesion within the company also contribute to a fulfilling work environment.
