Merveille AHOUNOU

Can you tell us a bit about you ? Your background & professional journey

I am Merveille AHOUNOU HSEQ Engineer.

After obtaining my high school diploma in Congo Brazzaville in 2014, I came to Senegal for college and earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree in QHSE at the African Institute of Management.

In my current role, I support, lead, or implement effective HSEQ management systems within the company to ensure it aligns with local regulations and international standards while generating profits and satisfying relevant stakeholders (partners, employees, customers, states, neighboring communities, etc.).

I have worked with organizations in various industries, including education, fashion, agri-food, port logistics, construction, and now oil & gas. These experiences have shown me the demands of the current business world and the importance of an effective HSEQ system for a company’s growth.

Why did you chose Dakar Offshore ?

Dakar Offshore is a Senegalese company with a primarily young and motivated workforce that operates in an industry where the level of HSEQ requirements is among the highest. Choosing Dakar Offshore was a professional challenge for me, as it required the application and monitoring of an HSEQ management system, training and awareness of staff at all levels , and ensure that we constantly align with international standards to meet the expectations of our various customers.

Can you describe your journey within Dakar Offshore ?

The experience acquired while working in the company, the development of my abilities, as well as the results shown have enabled me to hold the position of QHSE Manager today.

What does your job entail and which challenges do you face in your daily ops ?

My work mainly consists of preventing the different types of risks to which the company may be exposed and operationalizing the company’s short, medium and long-term objectives defined in its QHSE policy through support, training and awareness.

The implementation of a QHSE management system is still relatively new in our society, which leads many to resist the changes necessary for its implementation. Dakar Offshore has also risen to this challenge, as the resistance to the changes required by the system remains the biggest obstacle.

Which corporate value(s) do you most admire at Dakar Offshore ?

The value of mutual assistance among employees is one of the strongest principles that prevails within DO.
